Since we race over a variety of terrains and surfaces, we train in a variety of places.
Bonelli Park (San Dimas) – is our most frequent training site away from GHS and it is also the site of the one of our meets. Exit the southbound 57 Freeway at Raging Waters Parkway and turn left (east). As you enter the park, park in the first parking lot alongside the main road on your left. We gather at the west end of that parking lot. Entrance to the park is $10, so you may want to park just east of the freeway and walk in or get dropped off at the park gate.
Chino Hills State Park – is the site of a long continuous fire road/trail that we use for longs runs and special training sessions. Our gathering place is Alterra Park – exit the 71 Freeway at the Soquel Canyon/Central off ramp. Go right (west) onto Soquel Canyon Parkway. Shortly after you cross the larger intersection at Butterfield Ranch Road, you will see Alterra Park on the left.
La Verne Trails – is another site for hill training and trail running. We run the trails all the way to the head of Marshall Canyon. We meet at Lowell Brandt Park at the corner of Golden Springs and Stephens Ranch Road in La Verne. From Foothill or Baseline, go left (north) on Wheeler, turn right (east) onto Golden Springs to the park.
Legg Lake - we do fast, flat training and long continuous runs around Legg Lake in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte. Exit the 60 Freeway at Santa Anita. Go left (south) to the large parking lot just south of the freeway on your right. To get to our meeting spot, follow the path near the east end of the lot which heads directly south toward the lake. We gather at the end of that path near the lake.
Mills Loop – this is a hilly loop at Claremont Wilderness Park. We meet at the park’s lower parking area located at the corner of Mills Rd and Mt. Baldy Rd. Exit the 210 Freeway at Baseline. Go left (west) to Mills, turn right (north) to the parking lot. There is a fee to park in the lot.
Snow Creek Park - we meet here in Walnut to do fast hilly runs, and it’s just south of the intersection of Temple and Grand by Mt.SAC. Going south on Grand, turn left at the first light after Temple, which is the aptly named Snow Creek Drive.
Williams School – is our gathering place for warming up before doing hill repeats in South Hills Park. Williams is located on Loraine, just north of Route 66 in Glendora.
