That’s it.

For now.

See you Friday.  And Saturday.

The 2013 Glendora XC team will have our first formal competition with our inter-squad Tartan Top 7 meet, on Saturday at Legg Lake in South El Monte.

All athletes (not just varsity athletes, ALL ATHLETES) should plan to participate in this event.  This race will determine our Varsity sevens for the first race in two weeks AND gives our entire team a chance to race – because racing is the best way to get better at racing.

All ths info you need is HERE, including (for the first time ever) a course map.  By the way, parents are needed as course marshals – please see Larry Hoey the morning of the race.

This is where the fun begins.

See you Saturday.

Preseason Rankings (and a short history lesson)

Once upon a time, there was a high school track and cross country website called DyeStatCAL.  Last year, that website became PrepCalTrack.

Recently, DyeStatCAL was resurrected by a new group and just a few days ago they ranked our boys 16th in the state.  Not 16th in Division 2, 16th in the state.  With the top 5 still a mystery (until Monday), they currently sit 3rd in D2, which pencils out to a Top Ten preseason division ranking.

You can check it out HERE.

Of course, a preseason ranking and $4 will get you one of those fancy Starbucks coffees and not much more.  But that’s okay, we like to let our legs do the talking.

And ladies, we look forward to seeing you break into the rankings soon.

The coaches have announced the 2013 Glendora XC Captains.

Leading the back-to-back Baseline League Champion girls are four seniors: third-year captains Chloe Arriaga and Emily Hoey welcome Aly Ferguson and Danielle York.

And for the boys, senior Richard Johnson and junior Parker Seale join returning senior captains Mike Duke and Zach Fry.

Congratulations to all.

Calendar Updates

We have a few very important updates for your calendar:

First, click HERE for the practice schedule for the two weeks starting tomorrow (8/12/13)

Second, click HERE for the Training Outline for the rest of the season

Third, be advised that the date of League Finals has been changed to 11/6/13.  The season schedule, which can be found in the HOT LINKS page (linked at right), has been updated.  HOT LINKS should be your first click for XC info this season.

Fourth, you have been notified about our fundraiser by Jesus Arriaga, CFO (Chief Fundraising Officer).  The documents you need to enroll will be posted to the HOT LINKS page soon.  Another presentation will be given at the first pre-meet spaghetti dinner.  Which brings us to…

Fifth, and last, there will be 4 pre-meet spaghetti dinners this season; each is held before a Saturday meet.  Parents are welcome to attend, but please make sure all athletes are fed before diving into the spaghetti.  Please be sure that you and your athlete join us on:

August 30 – Johnson Home (extra important for parents to attend)

September 6 – Whitworth Home

September 20 – Leech Home

October 25 – Payne Home

Flyers and/or directions will be distributed prior to each dinner

Mammoth was AWESOME!

Convict LakeWe’re back from Mammoth.  It was a great week – hopefully you had a chance to look at the pictures at our “official” photo site (where the photos contain actual people).

Of course, a week of camp isn’t this great by coincidence – many people contributed many hours to prepare for and present the food, clinics, coaching, lodging and activities.  Not even Mother Nature (or was it a careless camper) could derail us with the nearby fire.

So we offer a large and sincere THANK YOU from the bottoms of our hearts to the following people who made the first edition of Coach Don Sumner’s Mammoth Training Camp extra memorable:

Coach Steve Sumner

Coach Kaitlyn Geiman

Coach Ben Mejia

Coach Carly Geiman

Coach Neill Netzeband

Mr & Mrs Kirwin

Mr & Mrs Fry

Mr & Mrs Kuehfuss

Mrs York

Mr & Mrs Ferguson

Mr Geiman

Mr & Mrs Arriaga

Mr & Mrs Hoey

As Coach Steve said before we left, the athletes contributed greatly to the quality of the camp.  Thank you all for respecting the rules, the workouts, the chaperones and, most of all, each other.
