No Fear No Pain No Defeat

Glendora Cross Country - No Fear No Pain No Defeat

Tartan Top 7

The 2012 Glendora XC team will have our first formal competition with our inter-squad Tartan Top 7 meet, on Saturday at Legg Lake in South El Monte.

All athletes (not just varsity athletes, ALL ATHLETES) should report to the park by 7:00 am. The first race is scheduled for 7:50.

This meet allows us to determine our Varsity sevens for the Bronco Invite next weekend, gives our entire team a chance to race – because racing is the best way to get better at racing.  The race is three miles on flat, winding decomposed granite paths.

Parents are needed as course marshalls – please see Coach Kaitlyn the morning of the race.

There will be a small shared meal after the race (contact Mrs Kidd to donate food), and we’ll also our distribute our white varsity shirts for the first time.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE

GHS XC Alumnus Chris Vega has been battling leukemia for the past year.  Our team has helped ease the Vega family’s burden with donations of money and gift cards as well as positive thoughts and prayers.

About a week ago, after several months of progress that had everyone expecting Chris to return home soon, he contracted pneumonia, and subsequently his overall health took a drastic turn for the worse.  The last couple days have brought news of steady improvement, and hope of continued healing.

Since Chris remains in critical condition, his family is spending nearly all of their time by his side.  So let’s mobilize once again to let Chris and his family know how much we care.  The team will be collecting money at Saturday’s race – any amount will be gladly accepted.  Gift cards to local restaurants help the family eat on the run between home and hospital; so those are helpful, too.  And bring a Sharpie, because you’ll want to sign the cards we’ll send to Chris.

CIF SS Preseason Rankings Released

One man’s opinion is just that: one man’s opinion.  But, we love to compare, contrast, suppose and imagine.

Before you click HERE to view the rankings, take a moment to consider:

  • The Southern Section is the largest section in California (see graphic)
  • California is among the top 3 or 4 most competitive XC states in the country
  • It is difficult to compare teams that have not raced against each other
  • It is even more difficult to compare teams that have not raced
  • One of the best things about cross country is that we get the opportunity the prove that one man right… or wrong

Introducing Your 2012 Team Captains

The coaches announced the 2012 Team Captains at practice today.

The Girls Team will be led this year by returning captains Chloe Arriaga and Emily Hoey, and first-time captains Taylor Butler and Kayla McGarrell.  All four girls were part of the team that won the Baseline League championship last year.

The Boys Team welcomes four new captains, two of whom ran all the way to the 2011 state championship meet: Seniors Cameron Sharp and Ryan Sanchez and Juniors Mike Duke and Zach Fry.

Congratulations to you all.

So uhhhh….. You like to run?

Then come on out and join the Glendora XC team.

We welcome athletes of all kinds of ability and experience levels. We are one of the best teams at GHS – our girls are the defending league champs and our guys advanced to the state championship meet last year.  We are also the most inclusive team on campus – there are no cuts and the whole team gets to run in (almost) every meet.

Our training is hard, but it is always adjusted to the individual athlete’s capabilities and experience.

Our training schedule is below on this page, so come to any of the practice on Thursday, August 16 at the GHS track at 3:10 pm.   If you can’t come then, come to Friday’s practice (same place, same time).

Come dressed to train, bring a friend, and come ready to find out how good you can be.

Mammoth Update

We’re running.

A lot.

The few of us who aren’t running are snapping photos of those who are running.  To see what we’re doing, click HERE.  Don’t we look happy?  And tired?

We’ve posted the link in the Blogroll to the right, as well.  Look for “The Official GHS XC Photo Gallery”.
