Glendora Cross Country - No Fear No Pain No Defeat

2012 Glendora Cross Country

Want to run cross country?  We’re an excellent team – our girls are defending league champs and the boys team were CIF and State Finalists in 2011 – but we’re also one of the most inclusive teams on campus, there are no cuts and no bench in our sport – everyone runs.

It takes quite a bit of training to get good at our sport, so we begin practice at the start of the summer.  While you can join the team when school starts, you’ll be missing out if you do.  We train 5-6 days a week in the summer and in the school year, and most of our competitions are on Saturdays in September and October.

  • The camp is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged, especially for varsity athletes
  • First year athletes are encouraged to take part, but they must meet basic fitness and training requirements.
  • Returning athletes need to have participated in track or another Spring sport to be eligible to attend, and will also need to meet the fitness and attendance requirements.

SGV Trib All Area: Emily Hoey 1st Team, Tori 2nd; Sumner Coach of the Year

Sophomore Emily Hoey capped her excellent season with a selection to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune’s All-Area First Team.  XC has been on the upswing among the 36 schools of the East SGV, and so being selected among the top seven is quite an honor.  Our team MVP this year, Emily was Baseline League Champion and she now ranks 5th All-Time GHS at Mt.SAC.

Fellow soph Tori Whitworth was chosen for the second team.  Tori finished second at the Baseline Finals, and her Mt.SAC best ranks her 8th AT GHS.

And in honor of the tremendous improvement of our girls team, Coach Don Sumner was honored as Coach of the Year.  Two years, we were last, fifth, and fifth in the three league meets.  Last year, we advanced to CIF and won several meet titles.  This year, we were undefeated in league to take what we think was the first girls XC League Championship in GHS history.

SGV Trib All-Area: Mike Duke 1st Team; Ryan, Aaron & Austin 2nd

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune release their Boys Cross Country All-Area team today.  The Tartans were well represented, earning four of the thirteen spots chosen from the 36 schools of the East SGV.  Damien’s Tom Ebiner was the Athlete of the Year.

Soph Mike Duke, the top area athlete in his class, was chosen for the first team.  Mike fought injuries throughout the year but pulled it together in the post-season to lead our team to CIF Finals and the State Meet.  His Mt.SAC best 15:42 ranks him 5th All-Time among Glendora athletes on the famous course.

Seniors Austin Mendoza and Aaron Forburger and junior Ryan Sanchez were chosen for the second team.  This was Austin’s second All-Area honor and the first for team MVP Aaron.  Ryan’s 15:50 PR ranked him 9th AT GHS, and Austin is 8th AT.

The girls All-Area Team will be released tomorrow.
